What is endocrinology?

Endocrinology is the study of hormones, which can be seen as messengers from one type of cell to another.  The endocrine system controls the flow of information between different cells and tissues, thereby regulating growth, puberty, menopause, appetite and metabolism. An endocrinologist is a doctor who specializes in treating disorders of the endocrine system.
